Skilled in all, but master of none? Welcome to General Management! Here, Stanford GSB graduates again earn more than their peers. On the surface, the school’s $155,084 base should impress everyone. Still, it is just a nominal $1,200 increase over their graduates’ pay in 2019. Compare that to the improvements made by their biggest competitors over that same span: the Wharton School ($12,200) and Harvard Business School ($16,400). Plus, the gap between Stanford GSB and the Wharton School has closed to $8,600 in General Management, meaning the GSB’s rivals may be closer than they initially appear in the rearview mirror. Still, the most impressive performance in this area belongs to Rice Jones. Ranked 27th overall by U.S. News, Jones graduates mustered the 4th-highest base pay average in 2021 at $136,667 – an achievement undermined by the school placing just 6 graduates in the role. Still, Jones graduates were consistent, with the highest base there being $140K. That’s less than half of the highest General Management paycheck – $300K – which was collected by a Stanford GSB grad. Harvard and Wharton MBAs also negotiated $250K and $220K bases in 2021.
