The global fossil fuel production gap remains large

A line graph showing global fossil fuel production is projected to reach about 35 gigatonnes per year by 2040, based on countries' plans and projections. This is far above the lines showing the level of fossil fuel production consisten with limiting warming to 1.5C and 2C.
The difference between global fossil fuel production projected by governments' plans (top line) and those consistent with 1.5C and 2C warming pathways (bottom two lines), expressed in carbon dioxide emissions released when the extracted fuels are burned.
