Q: With an increasing number of electric vehicles on our roads, fewer people will be paying the fuel excise which goes towards building and maintaining roads. Some people say that this is a fair incentive to encourage take-up of electric vehicles, though it would involve other motorists paying more or money being found for roads elsewhere. Other people say that we should introduce a road user charge so that all vehicles pay for the number of kilometres they travel each year, including electric vehicles. What is your own view?
