Fort Worth and Houston ISD saw sharp increases in the number of students sent to alternative education programs for substance-related offenses following the implementation of HB 114.

Chart shows the projected percent change in the number of students sent to disciplinary alternative education programs (DAEP) in the first half of the 2023-2024 school year, compared to data from the previous year. Houston ISD now includes a provision in its District of Innovation Plans exempting the district from HB 114's mandatory punishments.

Projected change does not take into account students sent to DAEP during the summer of the 2022-2023 school year.
