NOTES: This figure depicts response data from a survey question administered to teachers in January and February 2023. We first asked teachers, “Have you ever decided on your own, without being directed by school or district leaders, to limit discussions about political and social issues in class?” Among teachers who responded “yes,” we further asked teachers, “What are the top three reasons you decided, on your own, to limit discussion of political and social topics in your classroom?” These percentages only include teachers who reported that they had decided, on their own to limit classroom discussions about political and social issues (n = 818).
