Colorado has offered a tax credit on new electric-vehicle purchases for several years as part of its Innovative Motor Vehicle Credit. Since 2016, EV buyers were allowed to transfer the tax credit to the financial lender in order to get the credit taken off the sales price immediately. The number of taxpayers and amount of credit went up that year, only to drop back down in 2017.
