[1] Alabama enacted revised congressional district boundaries after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on June 8, 2023, that the state's congressional redistricting plan adopted on November 4, 2021, violated the Voting Rights Act and must be redrawn to include a second majority-black district.
[2] Florida initially enacted a congressional map on April 22, 2022. That map was overturned by court action on May 11. The map was reinstated by an appeals court on May 20, 2022.
[3] Kansas enacted a congressional map on February 9, 2022. A district court judge blocked the state from using the map on April 25, 2022, and the state supreme court overturned that ruling on May 18, 2022.
[4] Louisiana enacted congressional district boundaries on March 30, 2022. A federal district court overturned that map on June 6, 2022. The U.S. Supreme Court stayed that ruling on June 28, 2022.
[5] Maryland initially enacted a congressional map on December 9, 2021. That map was overturned by court action on March 25, 2022. Maryland enacted revised congressional district boundaries on April 4, 2022.
[6] Michigan's redistricting boundaries became law on March 26, 2022. The Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission approved the state’s congressional map on December 28, 2021, which became law on March 26, 2022.
[7] New York initially enacted a congressional map on February 3, 2022. That map was overturned by court action on March 31. New York enacted revised congressional boundaries on May 20, 2022.
[8] North Carolina initially enacted a congressional map on November 4, 2021, that was overturned by court action on February 4, 2022. The Wake County Superior Court enacted congressional district boundaries drawn by three court-appointed redistricting special masters for the 2022 elections only on February 23, 2022. The North Carolina Supreme Court voided that map on April 28, 2023.
[9] Ohio initially enacted a congressional map on November 20, 2021. That map was overturned by court action on January 14, 2022. The Ohio Redistricting Commission approved a redrawn congressional map on March 2, 2022. On March 18, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that it did not have jurisdiction within the original legal challenge to further rule on the redrawn map.
