13 State Medicaid Programs Covered GLP-1s for Obesity Treatment Under Fee-for-Service as of January 2026
Note: GLP-1 = glucagon-like peptide-1. Publicly available data used to verify status of states that did not respond to the 2025 survey or this survey question as well as to update for changes since the survey was released (October 2025). The survey found 16 state Medicaid programs covered GLP-1s for obesity treatment as of October 2025. However, since then, four states (CA, NH, PA, SC) have eliminated coverage and NC has reinstated coverage after dropping coverage in October 2025.
*These seven states (CT, LA, NH, NM, ND, PA, TX), either in survey responses or publicly available data, reported covering one or more weight-loss drugs but do not cover any GLP-1s. ^UT reported funding for coverage was limited to FY 2026.
