About 20% of people show up for jury service on their original date – and thousands never respond to the summons at all

Despite this, no one has been fined for not attending jury service in the last five years.

More summonses were cancelled in 2021 due to Covid-19 protocols. The number of people who did not attend, get excused or have their service cancelled is not gathered by the Ministry of Justice, and was reached by subtracting the number of attendances, deferrals, excuses and cancellations from the total number of summonses.
