In the eight Philadelphia zip codes with the highest number of shooting victims, more people have been shot since the start of the pandemic than have died from COVID-19. In the rest of the city, the opposite is true.
Most shooting victims don’t die, so there are still more COVID-19 deaths than shooting deaths, but the trauma of being shot can be significant for the victims and the community around them.
