from one party to another

From Jan. 1 to Jan. 22, nearly 13,000 NC voters switched their party registration, of which 53% went from Republican to Unaffiliated. That rate was even higher from Jan. 7 to Jan. 22 when 59% switched from Republican to Unaffiliated. In 2020, 237,611 NC voters (3.2% of all registered voters) switched their party registration, 16% of which was Republican to Unaffiliated. The chart shows the percent of all changes for Democrat, Republican and Unaffiliated voters by month since 2016.

Data excludes party changes to and from the Constitutional, Green and Liberation parties, which make up a very small percentage of changes.
