Metro Areas with Urbanized Core of 50,000 to 99,999

The OMB is considering a proposal to change the status of some small metropolitan areas to nonmetropolitan. Counties shown in red could be affected by the change, based on 2010 Census data.

The proposed definition would raise the population size from 50,000 to 100,000 for an city to qualify as the core of a metropolitan area. Counties shows in red are in a Metropolitan Statistical Area with a core urban population of 50,000 to 99,999. If the change is enacted, it would not go into effect until 2023, and population figures would be based on the 2020 Census.
