Pawpaws are grown in most states in the U.S.
Ohio has 165 pawpaw farms, the most of any state in the U.S., according to the 2022 Census of Agriculture, but 40 states have at least one farm. Unlike more commonly grown crops, pawpaws are not surveyed annually.
A map shows states with darker colors to indicate a higher number of pawpaw farms. States in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic sections of the U.S. generally have more pawpaw farms.
