Humback whale strandings along the East Coast

Humpback whales began getting stranded at faster rate than normal in 2016, which the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries has deemed an "unusual mortality event." A stranding means a whale has been found dead, either on the beach or floating in the water, or alive on the beach and unable to return to the water.
