Magnitude 4.8 earthquake hits New York City region

The earthquake struck near New York City on Friday morning, the US Geological Survey said. The epicentre was near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, and the quake occurred just after 10:20am local time (14:20 GMT) at a depth of 4.7km (2.9 miles). No major damage was reported.
