America's Ten Deadliest States for Gun Violence
This table shows the ten U.S. states with the highest firearm death rate per 100,000 residents in 2024, the most current final year of data available. The rate reflects all firearm death intents combined, including homicide, suicide, unintentional, and undetermined deaths, rather than any single category on its own. Every state on this list carries a rate more than double that of the nation's safest states, and the top five alone, Mississippi, New Mexico, Alaska, Alabama, and Wyoming, span three distinct regions of the country, the Deep South, the Southwest, and the Mountain West, despite very different populations, demographics, and gun cultures.
