Few Countries Allow On-Request Abortion Late in Pregnancy

Total abortion bans are growing rarer. But the Roe threshold of legal abortion for any reason until fetal viability is also relatively uncommon.

Notes: For countries with gestational limits, a 12-week limit is the most common. Many countries with time-based limits have exceptions for health or other reasons later in pregnancy. Details of permissible health and socioeconomic reasons for abortion vary widely; in some countries, such as Britain, they are essentially a formality. Gestational limits vary by state in Australia, but most states have limits that are later than 15 weeks. Mexico City and three other Mexican states broadly allow abortions on request.
