35 of the 38 OECD countries grant at least one week of paid leave for supporting parents

The OECD average is 26.7 weeks for mothers, 13.4 weeks for fathers and 28.2 weeks of shareable leave. The U.S. is the only country that doesn't legally guarantee any paid leave for either parent after the birth of a child.

Data is current as of April 2025. For Japan, the 44 weeks of the individual parental leave entitlements for the mother must be used simultaneously with the father if both parents are to use the entirety of their entitlement.
