About 10 miles south of Charleston and just northwest of Folly Beach, Bowen Island Restaurant is one of many restaurants, seafood dealers and watermen across the Carolinas and Georgia whose livelihoods are based on healthy salt marshes. These marshes, covering more than 1 million acres along the South Atlantic coast, protect and nurture the small fish, crabs and shrimp that grow into the seafood people eat.
