Density-adjusted Distance (one possibility)

Sum of the z-scores for distance to the three closest schools and zip code student density per school. Average distance to the closest three schools, expressed as a Z-score (i.e. the number of standard deviations above or below the mean for all elementary/K-8 schools). If this were the actual formula being used by SFUSD (and it is not), schools in red would be more likely to close.

All TK-5, K-5, TK-8, and K-8 schools considered to be the same grade span. New Mission Bay school included for the distance calculation but not shown. Lee Newcomer school ignored because it's co-located with Lau. Distances calculated by author using the latitude and longitude of each school's address. The average distance to the three closest schools was 0.63 miles with a standard deviation of 0.17 miles. Average student density was 1242 with a standard deviation of 617.
