Critical Access Hospitals In States

A quarter of the nation's hospitals are designed as "critical access" facilities, generally because they are the only hospital in an area. Medicare pays them more generously than other hospitals, but they have been left out of many of the changes spurred by the Affordable Care Act. This map shows what percentage of hospitals in each state are critical access.
