Drug and Opioid-Involved Overdose Deaths in The United States (2016-2017)

Data presented is from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding drug and opioid-involved overdose deaths in the United States from 2016 and 2017. In 2016, 66.4% of the 63,632 drug overdose deaths involved an opioid whereas in 2017, 67.8% of 70,237 deaths involved opioids. Illinois, Ohio and Michigan are states with the highest amount of opioid-related deaths from 2016-2017.

*Data reflects 34 states, that of which have the highest and lowest amount of opioid and drug related overdose deaths. Illinois has 1,040 reports deaths in 2016 and 1,187 deaths in 2017, making Illinois the state with the most drug and opioid-involved overdose deaths in 2017.
