Prisoners Reporting Sexual Victimization by Incident Type: Comparing 2011-2012 and 2023-2024

The National Inmate Survey (NIS) defines sexual victimization as any forced or coerced sexual activity with another inmate, or any sexual contact with facility staff. This bar chart shows how the percentage of adult prison inmates reporting sexual victimization, whether by another inmate or a staff member, in 2011-2012 compares to the percentages reported in 2023-2024.
