Mandatory minimums

Eight states either require a $15 minimum wage or have passed legislation to reach that level in a few years. Twenty-one states either set their wage floor at the federal minimum of $7.25 or have no explicit minimum wage.

Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee have no explicit minimum wage. The federal minimum wage applies to all workers subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act.
