MPs' staffing allowance 2001–2024, at 2024 prices

Increase in the staffing allowance that MPs can claim to cover hiring staff and associated costs. It has increased from 122k in 2001 to 250k in 2024. The allowance is presented in 2024 prices.

Notes: From 2010 the allowance has been set by IPSA. In 2012 IPSA introduced a differentiated staffing allowance for London area MPs. There are annual allowance increases and in 2001, 2008, 2012 and 2020 there were larger increases made to allow MPs to employ more staff (in 2020 this also covered extra support during Covid).
