A stacked area chart from the Institute for Government showing appointments in primary care by mode of delivery, September 2018 to September 2025, where face-to-face appointments have declined since the pandemic while telephone and video consultations have grown. In-person appointments dropped sharply from around 80% before the pandemic to below 50% in 2020, then gradually recovered to just over 63% in 2025. Telephone consultations rose sharply during 2020 and still account for roughly a quarter of appointments, while video or online appointments have grown steadily to about 9%.
