The average amount of money owed on energy bills in Massachusetts per customer with arrearages has grown significantly.

The "average" arrearage includes all investor-owned utilities in Massachusetts. Data from Eversource, National Grid, and Unitil combines arrearages for both gas and electric customers. Data is from June of each year, except for Berkshire Gas, which reported data from 2019 to 2023 in December. Liberty Utilities' Blackstone service territory was excluded due to data gaps.
