Oregon will use a basic formula to translate air emissions from factories into a crude estimate of health risk. If a facility scores high on the initial estimate, computer models will provide more precise results. The Oregonian/OregonLive applied the state's screening formula to 25 high-profile facilities. For cancer, the number represents expected additional cases per million people. For other health effects, a numeric scale is used.
