Cal Poly has spent more than $100,000 on emergency COVID-19 isolation measures

As hundreds of students tested positive for COVID-19 during the first week of the university's winter quarter, Cal Poly's available isolation beds filled up quickly. So, the university turned to local hotels to house COVID-positive students and offered others a $400 University Store gift card to isolate at home. In total, the university has spent about $107,462 for the emergency isolation measures, and that cost will rise because Cal Poly continues to rent out 66 hotel beds, down from 132 during the first two weeks of January.
