Nearly 2.5 Million Black Americans Live in Cardiology Deserts

Only cardiology desert counties are mapped. The shading corresponds to the percent of Black Americans in that county.

Cardiology deserts are counties with no active cardiologist. Providers were included if they (1) were a doctor of medicine (MD) or doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) (2) were located in one of the 50 U.S. states or the District of Columbia. The dataset on healthcare providers is licensed through HealthLink Dimensions, the authority in healthcare provider data. The population estimates for Black Americans were obtained from the 2020 Decennial Census Redistricting Data. More details are provided in the methodology section.
