Approved Arkansas Citizen Initiatives by Decade

Arkansas is one of 15 states where citizens can ask voters to consider constitutional amendments, state laws, and referendums. Below are the citizen-initiated amendments Arkansas voters approved since establishing the direct democracy process in 1910.

Arkansas voters originally approved the citizen initiative process in 1910. Voters in 1920 re-established the process that is now part of Article 5 of Arkansas' 1874 Constitution. A 2025 Arkansas Supreme Court decision overturned the Court's 1951 decision that prevented legislators from altering citizen-initiated amendments without referring those changes to voters to decide.
