Air quality monitoring data shows that methyl bromide levels near two fumigation facilities in West Long Beach have spiked above 100 parts per billion 20 times this year — mostly in March and April. Long-term exposure to the toxic pesticide above 1 ppb can cause health problems such as nasal cavity lesions and other developmental and nervous system effects.
