The U.S. became a net petroleum exporter in 2020 for the first time since at least 1949, exporting about 8.5 million barrels per day while importing about 7.9 million barrels, the lowest level of imports since 1991. The U.S. remained a net crude-oil importer, importing 5.9 million barrels per day and exporting around 3.2 million barrels.
