Mississippi's Gulf Coast Hit Hardest by Overdose Deaths in 2023

Jackson County saw 50.6 overdose deaths per 100,000 residents last year — the highest of any Mississippi county.

Note: Overdose deaths can be caused by any drugs, not just opioids. Counties with an overdose death rate of zero may mean no overdose deaths occurred there or that such cases did occur but were not reported by the relevant authorities. Population estimates for 2023 from the U.S. Census Bureau were used to calculate overdose death rates.
