Kern County has the highest suicide rate among CAlifornia's largest jails
Kern County's suicide rate of 5.61 deaths per 100,000 bookings from 2015-18 is the highest among the 10 largest jail systems. The rate climbed even as the county put hundreds of people a year into 24-hour-a-day isolation classified as suicide watch.
