Maryland government's payroll outpaces inflation

Over the last decade, the Maryland government's payroll has outpaced inflation. After adjusting for the dollar's decreased buying power, total gross pay in 2024 rose 13% over 2022 and 30% over 2014. (The years mark the first time Democratic Gov. Wes Moore controlled budget making for an entire calendar year and the last times his predecessors, Republican Larry Hogan and Democrat Martin O'Malley, did.) Below are figures for key organizations.
