Top Pa. doctors for medical marijuana certifications

Spotlight PA surveyed 10 physicians who each issued more than 15,000 medical marijuana certifications from 2020 through 2022.

One physician, Rebecca Maury, completed the survey and answered additional questions in an interview and emails. For two others, Roxanne Rick and Marcellus Boggs, Spotlight PA has received statements either from them or a representative. Spotlight PA received no responses from the other providers.

The data for medical marijuana certifications go back to 2017. Doctors became eligible to certify patients through virtual or phone appointments in 2020, and 2022 is the last full year's worth of data for doctor certifications provided by the health department.

To distribute the survey, Spotlight PA used doctors' addresses and contact information from government records, company websites, business filings, and other sources. The newsroom followed up multiple times.
