2024 MBA Pay: Consulting

It is the marquee destination for many ambitious MBAs…and for good reason. On average, consulting pays better than finance. 36 of the top 50 schools reported 2024 graduates earning $150,000 or more (with 21 schools averaging $170,000 or better). This pack includes the University of Miami, where a lone grad landed a $192,000 check – or nearly $10,000 more than the average at Dartmouth College’s Tuck School, which led all peer schools in the field at $182,135. Take out Miami and there were 9 schools clustered between $178K-$182K. How competitive is consulting pay? Harvard Business School ranked 12th in average pay at $173,582, edging out the University of Texas’ McCombs School by less than $1,000 (with McCombs, in turn, besting Columbia Business School by a near equal margin). Alas, consulting pay has seemingly plateaued. Just one program – Ohio State’s Fisher College – saw starting pay rise by $10,000 or more. In an upset, the largest starting base – $312,000 – belonged to a grad from Georgia Tech’s Scheller College.
