How much does Vermont spend on police? This map takes town-by-town budget data collected by student researchers at UVM and shows how much money nearly 100 Vermont towns plan to spend on their police, pending an approved town budget, which will be voted on during Town Meeting Day on March 1. Some towns do not have their own police forces, instead, they contract with a county Sheriff or a Vermont State Police Barracks. Some rural towns allocate no money for police. The darker the color of the town, the more proposed spending per capita researchers found.
