According to U.S. Census data, Colorado's housing market has spent the past decade recovering from the 2008 recession. But while the state permitted 42,627 housing units in 2018, that's only about two-thirds of construction as the state's peak year in 1972. Another thing to note: The cost of home construction has increased significantly, with each new unit averaging $240,000 in 2018, or about double the cost in the year 2000.
