Correlations for Popular Investments

This is a correlation table for major exchange-traded funds (ETFs) representing major asset classes, including S&P 500 stocks, Treasurys, REITs, and commodities for the decade up to October 2024, using monthly returns. The tickers for each ETF are listed along the top of the matrix. In this chart, color indicates the strength and direction of the correlation between asset pairs: darker blue signifies a stronger positive correlation, red indicates a negative correlation, and neutral values are gray.

The highest negative correlation in this matrix is -0.24, which means that as one asset's value tends to rise, the other tends to decrease, but not strongly. This indicates a mild inverse relationship between those assets.

The data is from TradingView using Portfolio Visualizer's correlation calculator. The ETFs include major funds from Invesco, iShares, State Street Global Advisors, and Vanguard.
