Well, so much for home field advantage! Think Ivy League (and NYU Stern) grads will be snapping up the biggest paychecks out East? Think again. When it comes to the highest starting pay, Stanford GSB again tops the list in the Northeast. For base salary, 38 GBS grads averaged $165,684 to start, up over $2,300 to start. Still, this represents just a $3,200 difference from two years ago – with Harvard Business School bases rising by nearly $10K (a feat duplicated by Stern, Booth, and Kellogg). The GSB also can’t claim the largest individual base. That belongs to Wharton at $375K, followed by a Harvard Business School grad at $300K (compared to Stanford’s $250K at the high end). Overall, 11 business schools produced graduates who earned $200K or more to start in the Northeast – including #18 Texas McCombs. In terms of average pay, 6 MBA programs produced classes who earned $150K average bases to start (with Dartmouth Tuck and MIT Sloan coming in at the $149K range). The biggest surprise: Boston College and William & Mary report that they had a graduate snag a $190K and $175K base to start, besting both Duke Fuqua and Virginia Darden.
