New York City's monthly eviction rate is rising

Marshals have recorded an average of 1,500 evictions per month since the start of 2025, the highest rate since 2018.

New York state instituted an eviction moratorium in March 2020 with rules preventing nearly all removals. The state lifted the moratorium in January 2022.
