Party margin changes in state legislatures, 2017-2021

This map shows the change in margin between Democrats and Republicans in state legislatures during Donald Trump's (R) presidency between 2017 and 2021. Margin changes were calculated by adding losses and gains for each major party in the state House and Senate.

States colored red saw their legislatures become more Republican during Trump's presidency. States colored blue saw their legislatures become more Democratic. A brighter shade indicates a larger change.
