Risk Factors for High-Risk Pregnancy in High-Risk Pregnancy Specialist Deserts

High-risk pregnancy specialist deserts are defined as counties where over 50% of the population lives at least 1-hour driving distance away from the nearest maternal-fetal medicine or perinatology specialist. Risk of high-risk pregnancy is based on the number of risk factors for which the county prevalence is higher than the national average. Risk factors for high-risk pregnancy were based on the prevalence of obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, asthma, heart disease, chronic kidney disease, and COPD.
