Survey results from July 2024 pilot test
Did your child experience any distractions during the test? If yes, please specify the nature of the distractions
INSIGHT
• 23% of students surveyed experienced distractions during the test.
• Noise distractions, particularly from invigilators talking, were the primary distraction noted in the survey.
• A student reported that perhaps the microphone wasn’t off when not in use as they could hear noise when it was placed down and when talking to other invigilators.
• Other noise distractions included coughing, other students making noise or dropping things, typing, and staff stepping on the metal grate in the ICC.
• Multiple invigilators assisting one student distracted other students close by.
• Another common distraction was the seating arrangement.
• Students found that sitting face to face was very distracting and they could not concentrate especially if one student was fidgeting or looking around.
• The timer flashing on the device from 4 minutes was distracting.
• Feedback from Bathurst was that the room was cold, and it was unable to be fixed which affected concentration.
