Healthcare Nonadherence Due to Cost for the Most Populous States

Share of respondents who reported delaying or skipping at least one of the following due to medical costs: prescription medications, mental health services, dental services, vision care, medical procedure or surgeries, doctor visits (e.g. primary care or specialists), or other healthcare service.

Data shown are based on 1,810 respondents who live in one of the 15 most populous states, had health insurance with prescription drug coverage, and who, within the previous month, either filled a prescription or had a prescription sent to a pharmacy that they did not ultimately fill. The 15 most populous states were determined based on 2020 Census data. The survey was run through YouGov from May 7, 2026, through July 21, 2026.
