When compared across five categories, New Jersey ranks first and Pennsylvania 18th in quality of childhood, according to Save the Children. In Pennsylvania, the highest-ranked county for a child to live is Bucks, and the lowest-ranked is Fayette. In New Jersey, the highest-ranked county is Hunterdon, and the lowest is Cumberland.

Figures for child food insecurity and high school dropouts are percentages. Infant mortality is per 1,000 live births; teen births are per 1,000 live births to girls ages 15 to 19; and homicides and suicides are per 100,000 population ages 0 to 19.
