Containers & Packaging Are the Largest Share of US Waste

Of the 292.4 million tons of US municipal solid waste generated in 2018 (the most recent comprehensive EPA dataset), containers and packaging made up the single largest category at 28.1%, ahead of food, durable goods, and nondurable goods.
