Nearly a tenth of the U.S. population — around 30 million residents — do not have health insurance. Most of them belong to the age-group 19 to 54 which makes up the bulk of the American workforce.
McClatchy analyzed state and national-level data from the 2018 versions of the 1-year and 5-year estimates of the American Community Survey, run by the Census Bureau. The figures have been rounded-off to the nearest whole.
